All La Porte ISD employees received a 4 percent raise, with a 4.5 percent raise for classroom teachers with six or more years of teaching service, at the La Porte ISD Board of Trustees meeting on June 18.
The raise was approved by the Board as part of the 2019-20 budget, with the percentage increase based on the midpoint of the salary scale in the 2018-19 Compensation Plan. In addition to the raise, all classroom teachers will also receive a 2 percent salary stipend, which will be paid in two payments at the end of the semesters.
The Board also approved a performance incentive of $1,250 for classroom teachers, with the measure of performance being attendance. While the performance incentive is not intended to discourage the use of leave days as deemed necessary, for every day of leave used, $125 will be deducted from the performance incentive. Likewise, instructional aides are eligible for a $700 performance incentive, with $70 deducted from the performance incentive for each leave day used.
Employees who are eligible for the raise are those who have met evaluation expectations for their positions and have been employed with La Porte ISD for at least one creditable year of service (as per Teacher Retirement System rules). Twelve-month employees will see this raise beginning with their June 28 paychecks, while all other employees will begin receiving it on their July 31 paychecks.
Superintendent Lloyd W. Graham explained that the administration’s recommendation and trustees’ approval of the pay raise are demonstration of their faith in and appreciation of La Porte ISD employees and their commitment to students.
Although the 2019-20 budget was approved at the meeting, the tax rate and final revenue numbers will not be adopted until certified taxable values are received in late August.
